BOT chairmanship: APC governors move against
Tinubu, Atiku

- The crisis in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) seems to be taking a new
dimension

- Governors in the party have resolved to be the ultimate power brokers

- The governors have decided to choose their own foot-soldiers in the party

The feud between the chairman of the APC, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun and the
National Leader of the party, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu may have taken a new dimension

[caption id="attachment_1035354" align="alignnone" width="799"] No longer at
peace! Oyegun and Tinubu's feud threatening to tear the APC apart[/caption]

Governors under the platform of the APC have resolved to use the opportunity to
hold a tight grip on the party, NAIJ.com has been informed.
A high ranking member of the party confided in NAIJ.com that the feud between
Oyegun and Tinubu came up at the last meeting of the APC govemors.

as ruling party crisis deepens

The party chieftain who was privy to the meeting, but choose to remain anonymous
because he is not authorised to speak on party affairs said the governors wants to take
advantage of the vacant Board of Trustees chairmanship position in the party to
‘hijack’ the party.

His words:The suggestion was brought forward by a governor in the North-west
region and met little resistance from the other governors.

‘Instead, they quickly started mapping out the strategy to perfect their plans, which
was when they came up with hijacking the vacant BOT position.’’

Tinubu and former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar were at loggerheads over the
position in the past, but the disposition of President Muhammadu Buhari, who has
shown no interest in party politics since he came on board made the duo forget the
idea.
While Tinubu was angling for the former interim chairman of the party, Bisi Akande to
take over the position, Atiku was positioning himself for BOT leadership.

Tinubu and Atiku seem to have sheath their sword since then as Tinubu’s call for
Oyegun’s resignation was immediately backed by a similar call from Atiku

[caption id="attachment_1057685" align="alignnone" width="799"] Atiku Abubakar
is still rumoured to be interested in the presidency in 2019[/caption]

Another source close who is in the know of the APC governors’ plan, opined that the
state chief executives are likely to have their way.

‘‘They are in the majority, and to make matters worse, governors loyal to Tinubu who
are actually few in number were absent at the meeting.

‘‘While those close to Atiku were actively involved in the plans of their colleagues,’’ he
said.

When NAIJ.com probed further to find out those likely to be backed by the governors for
the coveted position, the source said the governors are yet to settle for anyone, but he
quickly added that, ‘‘they are likely to settle for someone from the north, since Oyegun
is from the south.’’

Meanwhile, the governors have also resolved to start contributing financially to the
sustenance of the party, especially at the national level.

NAIJ.com exclusive report few weeks back detailed how Tinubu has withdrawn his
financial support for the party since his feud with Oyegun began, which had caused
panic in the headquarters.

‘The party hierarchy reached out to the governors and they have promised to start
sending something to us regularly and we are a grateful for that,’’ a staff of the APC
told NAIJ.com.

I stand with Buhari and APC - Tinubu warns

– Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has said that all speculation regarding rifts in
the APC must be dumped in the thrash

– Tinubu said he still stands in alliance with Buhari and the APC

– The APC chieftain went on say that he is not going to float any new
political party

Chief Bola Ahmed Tinubu has asked Nigerians to shun news making the rounds,
regarding the alleged divide within the All Progressives Congess (APC).

Chief Bola Ahmed Tinubu has warned Nigerians about spreading false reports
that he is in disagreement with Buhari and the APC.

The APC co-founder made the disclosure in an address to Nigerians via one of the
APC-run Facebook pages.

According to the statement titled: “Stop all these media nonsense, I stand with
Buhari and APC”.

Tinubu said: “Its all falacy, am fine with Mr president, there is no cause for alarm, I
don’t need to be living in Aso Rock before you know I am in government, VP
Osinbajo is there, Abike Dabiri is there, Fashola is there, Lai Muhammed, Fayemi,
Fowler and so many others are all there, I and the President still discuss time to
time about national issues.

“Tinubu while speaking in Lagos asked the people to disregard what they read on
media, attributing it to the handwork of the mischief makers, he further said, Yes we
may have had our own disagreement, which is the beauty of democracy, we are not
forming any party neither are we going anywhere. We built and nurtured APC to its
present state and together we must make it work.”

Meanwhile, Governor Simon Lalongsaid on Monday, November 21, that the South
West All Progressives Congress (APC) governors who were absent at the Saturday
APC Mega Gubernatorial rally in Akure, Ondo, had sent in their apologies and
given cogent reasons for their absence.

He said that the national leader of the party, Tinubu, was not at the rally due to ill-
health.

Lalong, who is the Chairman of Ondo APC Governorship Campaign Council, made
this known to State House correspondents after a closed door meeting with
President Muhammadu Buhari in the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Presidency speaks on Buhari's ambitions for 2019 election

– Presidency replies Buba Galadima on his suggestions that Buhari would be
abandoned by his party if he decides to contest in 2019

– Garba Shehu describes such speculations as unfounded and utterly
ridiculous, saying that the president enjoys strategic relationship with
ordinary Nigerians

– He also recalled the Galadima’s disagreement with Buhari, which started in
2011
President Muhammadu Buhari

The presidency has denied reports that Muhammadu Buhari would be alone if he
decided to run for the presidential office in 2019.

Garba Shehu, the presidential spokesman, in a statement made available to
NAIJ.com, said that Nigerians are the backbone of his mandate and the only reason
he ran for the office is to protect them against the rapacious merchants of
corruption, who have held Nigeria back for decades.

The presidency reacted to the allegations by a former CPC member, Alhaji Buba
Galadima that President Buhari would be abandoned by the people in 2019.

2019

On his own part, Mr Shehu defined his suggestions as unfounded and utterly
ridiculous, adding that Galadima’s calculation and prediction is utterly confused
and misleading.

He said the masses are solidly behind Buhari because the incumbent president is
not stealing their money and their future, that the president’s enormous goodwill
remains ever strong because the people are convinced the president is acting in
their best interest, despite the temporary unintended consequences of reforms.

The statement reads in part: “President Muhammadu Buhari is far from isolation. He
enjoys a very strategic relationship with ordinary Nigerians. This relationship is as
solid a the proverbial rock. If Buba Galadima thinks that because he has no role and no
job in this government that means the president is isolated he is putting himself up to
ridicule.

“Galadima cannot speak for the masses as far as their steadfast loyalty to Buhari is
concerned. While acknowledging that Galadima was entitled to advance his own
political agenda and didn’t have the right to decide for ordinary voters.”

The presidential spokesman recalled that Buba Galadima’s disagreement with
President Buhari was based on principle. He clarified that the Nigerian leader is
committed to level playing field and would not want anyone to link his name to
injustice.

Shehu added that Galadima’s disagreement with Buhari started in 2011 when a
group within the party, orchestrated an organisational mess by which the CPC
embarked on the imposition and substitution of candidates for cash payments at
the expense of those duly and democratically elected.

“Muhammadu Buhari was embarrassed by the incidents and complaints about the
imposition and substitution of candidates, adding that he, as a democrat, would not
suppress the will of the people to please selfish interests. Consequently, he dispensed
with the service, such as they are, of Buba Galadima; ran and won the 2015 Elections
without them. Let Buba Galadima go to his constituency, stand for election and see
what will happen to him,” concluded Mal. Garba Shehu.

Meanwhile, the former president Goodluck Jonathan has denied his interest to run
for the presidency in 2019.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on November 20, called him an icon and
added that Nigerians earnestly yearned for his return to government.

Goodluck Jonathan, who turned 59 on November 20, was defeated by Muhammadu
Buhari of the All Progressives Congress (APC) during the 2015 election.

Tinubu cannot attend rallies because
he is sick - Lalong

– Tinubu was not at the rally in Akure due to ill health, Governor Simon
 Lalong reveals

– The Plateau state governor says all prominent APC members who failed to
attend the rally had offered cogent excuses

– Lalong says it is no big deal to not have Tinubu present at certain rallies

Governor Lalong said on Monday, November 21, that the South West All
Progressives Congress governors who were absent at the Saturday APC Mega
Gubernatorial rally in Akure, Ondo, had sent in their apologies and given cogent
reasons for their absence.

Ex-governor of Lagos state was notably absent,as President Buhari led
the APC to a grand rally in Ondo state.

He said that the national leader of the party, Tinubu, was not at the
rally due to ill-health.

Lalong, who is the Chairman of Ondo APC Governorship Campaign Council,
made this known to State House correspondents after a closed door meeting
with President Muhammadu Buhari in the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The Akure APC rally, which was witnessed by President Muhammadu Buhari,
Senate President Bukola Saraki, and other prominent members of the party, was
attended by only Governor Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun from the South West.

The APC governors from Imo, Kano, Kogi, Jigawa, Nasarawa and Edo states
attended the rally.

The governors of Lagos, Oyo and Osun states, Mr. Akinwumi Ambode, Sen. Abiola
Ajimobi and Mr. Rauf Aregbosola respectively, as well as former governor of Lagos
State, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, were also absent at the event.

According to The Punch, Governor Lalong, who was accompanied by the Minister
of Mines and Steel Development, Dr Kayode Fayemi, however, explained that all
the prominent APC personalities who failed to attend the rally had offered useful
and convincing explanations.

He said that the national leader of the party, Tinubu, was not at the rally due to ill-
health.

He said: “We explained their absence. They sent in their apologies. You heard what
happened there.

“As far as we are concerned, the President, who is the leader of the party, was at the
rally. The national chairman was also there, as far as we are concerned, everybody was
there.

“If a leader was not there and he said he was not there because of ill-health, we prayed
that God will heal him.”

Lalong said he was in the Villa to thank the President for attending the Ondo rally.

He said: “We have come to thank the President for going to Ondo for the grand finale
rally.’’

Tinubu, who is being addressed as National leader of the APC, had opposed the
emergence of Rotimi Akeredolu as APC governorship candidate in Ondo.

He, therefore, demanded the resignation of the national chairman of the party,
Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, whom he said had derailed from the path of
progressives.

Odigie-Oyegun, however, dismissed the call, saying the party’s primary election
was free and fair.

Nigeria will emerge world leader in emission reduction – Buhari

President Buhari delivers National Statement at the High Level Segment of COP 22 in Marakkech, Morocco, on 15th November, 2016.
President Muhammadu Buhari says Nigeria wil be one of the world’s best examples in emission reduction.
The President made this known on Tuesday in his statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity,
Mr. Femi Adesina, at the 22nd Session of the Conference of Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change taking place in Marrakech, Morocco.
Buhari, in the statement, outlined the Federal Government’s plan toward aligning with the global objectives on climate change and ensuring inclusive growth and environmental sustainability.
The president declared his administration’s resolve to ensure that policies put in place to address climate change would make the country emerge as one of the world’s best examples of how reducing emissions could benefit the environment and the economy.
He said, “In Nigeria, we are launching a strategic plan for the implementation of our Intended Nationally Determined Contributions.
“We have equally embraced the issuance of green bonds as innovative means and alternative way of raising climate finance both locally and internationally.
“We cannot afford to wait until 2020. We are already making far reaching changes in all sectors of our economy, including through substantially increasing the use of climate smart agriculture and diversification of our energy mix through renewable and efficient gas power.
’’He said that the changes also included creating more efficient, cleaner and lower-carbon oil and gas sector, especially through a gas to energy programme and initiating the implementation of clean-up of the Ogoni-Land in the Niger-Delta region.
The President stated that Nigeria planned to reduce emissions by 20 per cent by the year 2030, with the intention of raising the target to 45 per cent, with the support of the international community.
He said, “We have reflected our determination for green growth in my country’s ambitious Intended Nationally Determined Contribution.
“We have also announced plans to reduce emissions by 20 per cent by the year 2030, with the intention of raising this target to 45 per cent, with the support of the international community.
“This is one of Africa’s most ambitious Intended Nationally Determined Contributions – covering all emissions from all parts of the economy.
Buhari noted that Nigeria has no choice but to key into the global action on climate change. He said, “In Nigeria for instance, the impact is being felt by the more than 2.1 million people displaced by devastating floods that the country has continued to suffer since 2012.
“If not addressed by 2050, the human and financial cost would be colossal.
“For us in Nigeria, the larger dimension of the challenge goes beyond emission rights. Survival rights are also at stake.
The President told the gathering of the agreement at the 71st session of the UN General Assembly that climate threats and security threats go hand in hand and called for concerted efforts on them.
He said, “The Lake Chad Basin for example, has shrunk to a mere 10 per cent of its original size, and this has seriously affected the livelihood of over five million people and contributed to the growth of insecurity in the region, including the emergence of Boko Haram as a terrorist group.
“Hence the urgent need to resuscitate Lake Chad.
In this regard, I seize this opportunity to express gratitude and appreciation to those who  have responded to our call and to encourage other well-meaning partners to join in our  efforts to revive the Lake Chad Basin.
”He expressed the readiness of Nigeria to join hands for the change that the whole world was working toward. He said, “We, therefore, stand ready to engage in meaningful partnerships to tackle the menace, and call on our neighbours and developing partners to fulfil their financial obligations in support of efforts to mitigate the negative impacts of climate change.
He also called on world leaders to “recommit ourselves to the achievement of the goals outlined in the Paris Agreement that we collectively signed in 2015 for the benefit of this and future generations.
President Buhari disclosed that Nigeria had submitted its instrument of ratification for the new global agenda on climate change.
“We urge others to do the same in order to make the world a safe place.”
